Automated Labeling, Packaging & Palletizing Equipment

Packaging & Post-Fill Automation Basics

Introduction

After the critical step of filling a container (i.e. can or bottle) the next step is to get it into a finished, shipment-ready package as efficiently as possible.

In modern production environments, packaging isn’t just the last step—it’s an essential part of delivering product quality, brand integrity, and logistics efficiency. Automated post-fill packaging systems take cans, bottles, and containers that have been filled and sealed, and complete the journey from production line to pallet with speed and accuracy. Automation reduces manual labor, tightens quality control, and supports throughput goals across beverage, CPG, e-commerce, and industrial operations.

Post-Fill Packaging and Why It Matters

Post-fill packaging refers to the operations that follow filling and sealing in a production line—tasks that prepare a product for transportation, storage, retail shelving, or direct-to-consumer delivery. These include drying, labeling, grouping, and packing. With automated systems, these functions are performed with higher consistency and throughput than manual methods, reducing labor costs and minimizing product damage or contamination.

Key Post-Fill Functions:

  • Drying & Rinse-Dry: Removes residual product and moisture after filling to improve label adhesion and presentation.

  • Label Application: Applies durable, consistent labels for branding and compliance.

  • Carrier & Multi-Pack Application: Groups products into retail-ready formats (rings, PakTech carriers, cardboard packs) to streamline distribution.

  • Box Packing and Palletizing: Places finished goods into cartons or onto pallets for efficient warehousing and shipping.

The Role of Automation in Packaging

Automation is increasingly essential in post-fill packaging because it:

  • Accelerates Throughput: Machines operate continuously at consistent speeds, reducing cycle times and bottlenecks.

  • Improves Quality and Uniformity: Precision mechanisms ensure every label, pack, and group meets exact standards.

  • Enhances Safety and Labor Efficiency: Lowers repetitive manual tasks, reducing risk of injury and freeing personnel for higher-value work.

  • Supports Scalability: Automated systems are configurable for varying SKUs and packaging formats as operations grow or diversify

How Automated Post-Fill Packaging Impacts Your Operation

Operational Benefits

  • Reduced Downtime and Waste: Consistent machine precision limits rework and product damage.

  • Lower Total Labor Costs: One machine can often replace multiple manual roles, allowing teams to upskill.

  • Higher Throughput: Integrated systems move products from filling to packaged pallet faster and with fewer interruptions.

Strategic Advantages

  • Improved Brand Presentation: Clean, accurately labeled products reflect quality and build customer trust.

  • Scalable Architecture: Systems can grow with production demands, accommodating new SKUs or packaging formats.

Codi Manufacturing’s Packaging & Post-Fill Equipment

Codi’s packaging and post-fill lineup complements upstream filling and seaming systems by seamlessly finishing products into market-ready units. Each component is engineered to integrate with conveyors, fill lines, and material-handling systems for smooth, end-to-end production.

Labeling & Drying

  • Label Applicators: Apply high-quality, durable labels to wet or dry containers for professional, consistent branding.

  • Blower Dry-Off: Removes surface moisture to ensure labels adhere cleanly and packaging remains contaminant-free.

Packaging & Grouping

  • Carrier Applicators: Create retail-ready multi-packs with ring handles, PakTech, or cardboard tops.

  • Servo-Controlled Box Packers (Flex Pack): Automate placement of containers into boxes, eliminating repetitive manual motion.

Flexible, Integrated Systems

  • Modular Mobile Stations: Combine rinse, dry, labeling, and packaging functions on a single, reconfigurable platform for space-efficient line layout.

  • Conveyance & Accumulation: Designed to move products smoothly between post-fill operations while absorbing normal line variation.
